The Value of Organization

The focus on any curriculum is usually its content. The most important feature is deemed the knowledge that is transferred, and not the process of transfer. ACE differs. While its academic qualities are first-rate, a high value is also assigned to the principles that are passed through its methods. These are most clearly outlined in the five laws of learning, which are woven throughout the ACE programme. For that is what it is: a programme, not just a curriculum. But what is the worth of these methods to modern society? To answer that question we need merely consider how some of ACE’s principles affect our everyday lives:

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”
Barely a week passes without a new personal planner or goal-setting technique entering the market. In our fast-paced, distraction-filled world, the power of setting simple and achievable daily goals is an ever more valuable commodity. It’s a good job then that ACE students are trained every day to plan for the next, taking into
account their schedule, the difficulty of the work, and their long-term future.

“Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again.”
Do a little bit. Stop. Check it. Correct it. Check it. Go again. Repeat for the rest of your life. A simple formula, but one that pays dividends. Through it’s rigorous system of self-accountability, ACE teaches students that mistakes are just a part of learning; the key is to keep learning and keep going. “For the righteous falls seven times and rises again.”

“Give us clear vision that we may know where to stand.”
In the midst of everyday life, it’s easy to lose sight of the big picture. A breaking news story here, a friend’s Instagram story there, one more email in the inbox, and before you know it, another day has been and gone. Students in the ACE programme learn that their daily tasks are just little steps towards larger, long-term goals. The big picture contains thousands of brush strokes, but at some point you’ll want to take a step back and admire the masterpiece!

“Once you stop learning, you start dying.”
The KEY to learning is to Keep Educating Yourself. Self-motivated learning is one of the tenets of ACE. In the age of YouTube tutorials, Google searches, and Wikipedia articles, being taught how to teach yourself pays for itself! One ACE graduated recounted sitting in his first university lecture and being told, “Now you’re all going to have to learn by yourselves!” Needless to say, he graduated with a first.
